He dominated batters like no other in the Central California Conference, leading the Turlock High baseball team to one its best seasons in recent history in 2010. No one was able to stop Vince Wheeland judging by his 13-0 record, which was the best reported mark in California.

And now, he's been recognized as one of the best.

Wheeland — who signed his letter of intent to play for Oklahoma State, in part to clear his clear his mind from post-high school decisions before his senior run — was picked by CalHiSports to the all-state first team, a first-time honor for the Bulldogs. On top of his undefeated record, he had a 0.74 ERA with two saves and guided the Bulldogs to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I South championship game against the St. Mary's High Rams in May.

“This means a lot,” Wheeland said. “It really shows that a lot of hard work does pay off.”

One of his season's highlights was earning a win against the Rams, who hadn't lost in 16 tries, on May 21.
