Turlock and Hilmar cross country end year at Sections

The Bulldogs and Yellowjackets each had their representatives competing in this past weekend’s Sac-Joaquin Section tournament where Maria Varela, Hope Salsig, Adelae Fredeen and David Bosquez competed for Turlock and Hilmar sophomore Arianna Lara-Chavez made a tremendous leap.

Unfortunately neither teams were able to capture top place finishes, but each improved their time significantly after a solid season for both sides that ended at the Willow Hill Reservoir Saturday.

“I am very proud of these student-athletes for working so hard,” said Turlock head coach JoAnn Davison. “They just kept improving as the year went on.”

Turlock's top finisher was Bosquez who topped out at number 29 out of 78 with a time of 17:26 in Division-I.

For the girls, sophomore Salsig placed 47th with a time of 21:52 and teammate Fredeen was just behind after clocking in at 21:53. Varela ended up with a 54th place result after finishing with a time of 22:16.

Salsig and Varela both earned All-Central California Conference honors as well.

Turlock girls finished 11th overall in Sub-Sections and the boys placed at 14.

Hilmar took 11 runners to the Sub-Sections with sophomore Arianna Lara-Chavez eventually finishing with a strong time of 21:12.

Hannah Sanders was the other girl for Hilmar that made the Sub-Sections with a time of 23:50. The nine boys runners for Hilmar: Kevin Williams, Mason Miguel , Ethan Barcelos, Dominic Borrelli, Alberto Alves, Alec Barcelos, Jose Herrera, Adrien Castro and Andrew Johnson.
