As the end of the girls’ tennis season is within reach, the team is still alive but the singles and doubles tournament ended for the Turlock High Bulldogs on Thursday at the Johnson Ranch Racquet Club in Roseville.

With a lengthy, yet successful season for the Turlock girls’ tennis squad, the action resumed on Thursday with the singles and doubles CIF Sac-Joaquin Section tournament.

Turlock's number one singles player Mila Johns participated in the tourney as well as the number one doubles team of Lauren Carlson and Courtnie Chan.

Unfortunately as the day concluded, both would be eliminated after the first round despite a strong effort.

Johns played against Kayla Nguyen from Franklin High but would unfortunately lose convincingly, 0-6 and 1-6.

“Mila played tough. Most points went to deuce. She gave 100 percent and I am proud of her,” said Turlock girls head coach Linda Bejaran.

Carlson and Chan lost to Vacaville's number one doubles team in three sets, 2-6, 6-4 and 2-6.

“In the second set they kicked it up and played aggressive doubles,” Bejaran said of her doubles team. “In the third, the energy got low. This was a great way for Mila and Lauren to end their last year on the squad, going to sectionals and representing Turlock High with tenacity and grace.”

Turlock’s next team match in the Section playoffs will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Turlock High School.
