The second week of Turlock Youth Football season saw the 49ers sweep their opponents, the Merced Bears.

The Pee Wee team shut out the Bears, 6-0; JV outscored the Bears, 8- 6; and the Varsity stunned the Bears, 22- 0.  The 49ers' success was especially satisfying, as it was their second week in a row of away games.

The 49ers play their first home game of the season on Saturday.  Game times are 1:30 p.m. Rookies, 3 p.m. Pee Wee, 5 p.m. JV, and Varsity at 7 p.m., all played at Joe Debely Stadium.

The Vikings traveled to Oakdale to face the mighty Stampede on Saturday, and,  unfortunately, did not do as well as the 49ers.  The Pee Wee team came out swinging with a 54- 0 victory, but the Varsity ran into a jam with too many turnovers and injuries, allowing the Stampede to gain a 41-8 victory.

While the other Vikings struggled, the JV team stepped up and brought home the 14-6 win. Anthony Frias got the Vikings on the scoreboard with a 40 yard TD. Oakdale answered with a touchdown to tie it 6-6.

With 1:50 left to go in the game, and with everyone thinking OT was inevitable, the Vikings punted to Oakdale.  Oakdale started at their 20 yard line, and on the first play, Bryce Martin stripped the ball from the runner giving the Vikings excellent field position.  The first play saw Lucas Curtis running for 25 yards for a TD and this time Mike Mirza added the extra point to secure the victory for the Vikings.

Next week the Vikings will face another road trip to play the Manteca Buffalos at Manteca High School.  The game will played on Sunday, with start times at 9:30 a.m. Rookies,  11 a.m.  Pee Wee, 1 p.m. JV and Varsity at 3 p.m.
