Week 4 for Turlock Youth Football was both good and bad.

The Vikings hosted the Merced Cougars on Saturday and had an excellent day with all levels winning.  The Pee Wee team dominated again with a 45- 0 win.  JV played a tough game coming up with a 14-7 victory.

This week’s feature game was the Varsity Vikings, who won with a 48-0 shutout over the Cougars.  Six different players scored against the Cougars in the much-needed victory game. Dustin Grein scored on the opening drive with a 7 yard TD run. Lee Parker, using his speed, gave the Vikings a score with a 38 yard TD run.  Vikings defensive line man big Jake Thompson knocked the ball loose allowing Fabio Gutierrez to recover on the Cougars 28 yard line. The Vikings lit the board up again with Bryce Souza receiving a 27 yard TD pass from Clay Abrams.

At the start of the second quarter, both Jordan Potter and Luis Avina completed 1 yard TD runs. It wasn't just an offense game, however, as the Viking defense stepped up to secure the victory. Cameran Sherwood blocked a punt allowing Grayson Yonano to recover.  Chico Salinas scored with a 6 yard run giving the Vikings a commanding lead of 46-0.  The only hiccup in the game was an interception by the Cougars on the two yard line with very little time on the clock.  The Vikings defense, however, did not allow the Cougars to earn a first down during the entire game.  Cameran Sherwood aided the defense to score with a safety, ending the Cougars dream of getting back into the game.

Next week the Vikings will travel south to take on the Buhach Thunder.

On Saturday, the Niners traveled to Modesto to take on the Broncos and recorded a loss at all levels.  The Pee Wees were outscored 14- 6;  JV were shut out 30- 0; and Varsity came close but missed two extra points leaving the final score 21-20.  Next week the Niners will be at home hosting the Livingston Wolves. Game times are 1:30 p.m. for Rookies, 3 p.m. for Pee Wee, 5 p.m. for JV and Varsity at 7 p.m. All games are played at Joe Debely Stadium at Turlock High.
