MJC Dance presents Jam n Jive A New York State of Mind

Modesto Junior College Department of Dance presents “Jam ‘n Jive… A New York State of Mind” at 7 p.m. Sept. 14, 15, 16, and 17 in the Main Auditorium of the Performing and Media Arts Center on East Campus, at 435 College Ave. The evening of dance will celebrate the rich culture and history of New York through choreography within a variety of styles of musical theater, jazz funk, contemporary and traditional jazz dance. In addition to MJC’s Off-Balance Dancers, the high schools involved in this year’s Jam ‘n Jive concert are Beyer, Central Catholic, Central Valley, Ceres, Davis, Downey, Enochs, Gregori, and Modesto. Also performing are the private dance studios of 5678 Dance, Juline Regional Youth Ballet, Strut Performing Arts, The Dance Academy, and The Dance Factory.

Showcase exhibit opens at Carnegie

From more than 200 entries, jurors have selected 84 works that will be on display in the annual Carnegie Art Showcase exhibition taking place this summer at the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock. The juried exhibition is a celebration of artistic excellence. The show opened Wednesday and will be on view in the CAC’s Ferrari Gallery until Sept. 5.
