A Turlock man was arrested on several charges after allegedly hitting a man with his vehicle during an argument that turned violent.

The suspect was identified by the Turlock Police Department as John Dewitt, 60, of Turlock.

Dewitt and the victim got into an argument outside a business in the 1300 block of W. Main Street around 8 p.m. Monday.

"Dewitt got upset and drove over curbs and planters, targeting the victim with his vehicle," Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Parmley said.

Dewitt allegedly struck the victim with the front of his vehicle, causing the victim to sustain non-life-threatening injuries, Parmley said.

The victim was treated on scene for his injuries and declined to go to the hospital by ambulance.

Dewitt fled the scene in his vehicle but was located a short distance away.

He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, driving while intoxicated causing injury and for a misdemeanor warrant for driving under the influence.
