An all terrain vehicle collision with a Honda in Delhi on Monday sent two people to area hospitals with major injuries.
Around 11:45 a.m. Monday, 17-year-old John Collins of Ballico was driving a 2007 Suzuki ATV southbound along the east bank of the Hi Line Canal, going between 15 to 25 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Collins drove the ATV off the canal bank and onto El Capitan Way, directly in the path of a 1991 Honda Accord, driven by Maria Deparra, 36, of Winton.
The Honda was traveling at approximately 55 mph when the two vehicles collided, the CHP reported.
The front of the Suzuki struck the left front of the Honda. The force of the impact ejected Collins off the Suzuki and onto the roadway. The CHP reported he sustained major injuries and was transported by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
The collision sent the Honda onto the right shoulder, where it crashed through two fences and struck a large tree. Deparra was transported to Emanuel Medical Center with major injuries. According to the CHP report, she was not wearing a seat belt.
