A Bay Area man caught driving a stolen vehicle in Turlock, was sentenced to five years in prison on Feb. 25.

Keith James Buenafe, 36, of Campbell was convicted of possession of a stolen vehicle and admitted to previous auto theft convictions from July 2007 and November 2009, which he was still on parole for, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office.

Buenafe was arrested Feb. 10 when an officer from the Stanislaus County Auto Theft Task Force spotted him driving a 1999 blue convertible BMW M3 that had been reported stolen the day before out of San Jose.

The vehicle was stolen when it was left unattended while idling in the victim’s driveway.

According to the district attorney’s office, when the officer questioned Buenafe after stopping him, Buenafe stated “you got me in a stolen car. I’m screwed.”
