The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a homicide that is believed to be linked to a fight at a Stevinson bar.

The name of the deceased has not been released at this time. He was 30 years old.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday sheriff’s deputies were summoned to the Stevinson Bar and Grill at 20104 3rd Ave., in Stevinson for a report of a fight.

Bar patrons told the deputies that a fight had occurred at the bar earlier and that bar security had escorted all those involved outside, but that some remained on scene. Some of the patrons felt like trouble was brewing and called the sheriff’s department, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Delray Shelton.

As deputies were looking into the fight, a call was received about a deceased man in a vehicle parked on Edminister Road, which is a short distance from the bar.

Shelton said the deceased was a victim of homicide and was linked to the fight reported at the bar. A cause of death has not been released.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit at 385-7472 or Dispatch at 385-7445. Callers can remain anonymous.
