Crash into fence leads to drunk driving arrest

A Turlock man who was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle that had crashed into the wrought iron fence around the Salvation Army was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Steven Marquez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and possession of narcotics for the early Friday morning incident.

The Turlock Police Department received a report of the crash outside the Salvation Army at 893 Lander Ave. The officers arrived and found Marquez passed out behind the wheel of the crashed vehicle. The vehicle was on the sidewalk with the front end collided with the fence.

The officers were able to wake Marquez and had him perform a field sobriety test, which he did not pass.

He was placed under arrest and a subsequent search turned up a bag of cocaine in his pants pocket and marijuana inside his vehicle.
