The search for a burglary suspect Monday afternoon prompted a brief lockdown of a Turlock daycare center.

Around 12:30 p.m. a woman called the Turlock Police Department to report a burglar had just been in her apartment in the 3500 block of Crowell Road and one of the items stolen was a handgun, said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

Officers en route to the apartment saw a man running in the area. It appeared as if the man jumped a fence and ran into a residence on N. Walnut Road.

The search for the armed suspect was happening in the vicinity of a daycare on N. walnut and as a precaution a lockdown of the center was ordered, Lewis said.

Officers contacted the man in what turned out to be his own residence. No links could be established between the man and the burglary and no arrests were made, Lewis said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact the Turlock Police Department at 668-5550.
