Driver flees after striking, killing pedestrian on Highway 99

The California Highway Patrol is looking for anyone who may have information about a hit and run Tuesday morning on Highway 99 that left one dead.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending positive identification and next of kin notification. The CHP did say he was a 27-year-old Delhi resident.

The deceased was walking on Highway 99 when he was struck.

The collision was reported to the CHP at 2:54 a.m. Tuesday on the highway, north of West Main Street.

An unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on the highway at an unknown speed in the number one lane.

The pedestrian was walking in the number one lane and was struck by the front of the vehicle, according to the CHP.

The unknown vehicle fled the scene southbound on the highway. The CHP said the vehicle will likely have front-end damage.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
