A 25-year-old Turlock woman was hospitalized with severe injuries after her car crashed into a traffic signal pole Friday night.

The single car collision was reported around 11:30 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of E. Tuolumne Road, near the Colorado Avenue intersection.

It’s unknown at this time what caused the woman to lose control of the vehicle and strike the pole.

The impact caused the front of the vehicle to crumple around the pole and trapped the woman in the car. The Turlock Fire Department was dispatched to the collision and used heavy extrication tools to free the woman from the wreckage.

The driver was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital and at last report she remained in critical condition with life threatening injuries, according to the Turlock Police Department.

The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is looking into the collision. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
