Drugs, cash found in Turlock traffic stop

A traffic stop for a vehicle code violation led to the discovery of a large quantity of marijuana and the arrest of four men on Wednesday.

The traffic stop happened around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Lander Avenue.

"During the traffic stop, officers detained four subjects and established probable cause to conduct a search of the vehicle," said Turlock Police spokesperson Sgt. Michael Parmley.

Inside the vehicle Turlock police officers found 28 pounds of pre-packaged marijuana along with approximately $35,000 in cash. The marijuana had an approximate street value of $28,000, according to the police department.

The four men in the vehicle — Jose Penaloza, 33, of Turlock; Majid Hassan, 26, of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Riyad Sabir, 33, of Conyers, Georgia; and Ali Mohamed, 29 of San Diego — were arrested and cited for narcotics related charges.

The marijuana and money were confiscated.
