A Dos Palos man was sentenced Monday in Merced County Superior Court to 15 years to life for the death of his 3-year-old daughter.

Jericho Wright, 30, pled no contest to the charge of second degree murder in the death of Liadan Wright on Feb. 25, 2008.

The Merced County Coroner’s Office said Liadan died from multiple blunt force traumas to the head. She also had bruises to her shoulder and torso.

According to the Merced county Sheriff’s Department, Wright threw his daughter into the shower because he was punishing her for wetting her pants twice that day.

The little girl struck her head during the assault. About three hours later she said she was sleepy and wanted to go to bed.

Wright told investigators he checked on her around 3:30 a.m. and found her still sleeping. He left her alone at the home and went to deliver newspapers. He returned home around 5:30 a.m. and found her cold and stiff to the touch. He went back to work and didn’t return home until 9 a.m.

After his arrest, Wright told investigators he tried to commit suicide by drinking a bottle of champagne and downing a bottle of aspirin. He woke up about eight hours later and called 911.
