A man who went home for lunch interrupted a burglary and the suspect was caught by a school resource officer from Turlock High.

The break-in was reported around 10:30 a.m. Friday in the 2200 block of Carrigan Street.

The victim went home for lunch and as he was leaving he heard a loud crash come from the back of his home. He went to investigate and found a man standing in his home with the back door kicked in.

The burglar fled out the backyard and hopped over a fence, with the victim chasing after him and calling the police on his cell phone.

The suspect was running through alleys, when he was apprehended by Turlock Police Officer Ian Rodriguez, who was working as the school resource officer at nearby Turlock High School.

The suspect’s attempt to flee prompted a short lockdown at Julien Elementary School and Turlock High.
