The Turlock Fire Department reported a busy Fourth of July as they responded to multiple fires and reports of illegal fireworks being ignited.

In addition to multiple calls for medical assistance, gas leaks and one residential house fire, the Turlock Fire Department responded to a woman injured by an illegal firework and extinguished eight grass fires started by fireworks. They also took 81 calls reporting illegal fireworks, said Turlock Fire Chief Tim Lohman.

The Turlock Police Department issued two citations for illegal fireworks.

The grass fires were reported in various parts of Turlock and were all started because of firework use, according to the fire department.

One woman suffered an injury because an illegal firework was set off in a street and struck her in the leg. The fire department said the injury was minor.
