Free steering wheel locks

The Stanislaus County Auto Theft Taskforce will distribute 1,000 steering wheel locks to county residents to help curb auto thefts.
In Turlock, the locks can be picked up at the Turlock Police Department at 900 Palm St. and at the police department at California State University, Stanislaus at 801 Monte Vista Ave.
Recipients of the free locks will be asked to provide a valid registration card as proof that they live in Stanislaus County and that they own one of the county’s eight most frequently stolen vehicles with an emphasis on 2003 or older models.
The eight vehicle models are: Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Sentra, Acura Integra, Chevrolet/GMC pickups / SUV’s, Toyota pickups, and Ford Mustang.
The locks should be available after Aug. 27.
