A Hilmar man stopped a burglary by blocking the four suspects in a driveway, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.
The man was checking on his property in the 7000 block of Lander Avenue Saturday morning, when he saw four people he did not recognize in front of the residence, sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie said.
A short time later sheriff’s Deputies Micah Brawley and Preston Sanchez arrived and detained the four. After an initial investigation, they located some exercise and camping equipment inside one of the suspect’s vehicles, property that belonged to the renter of the house. The four were taken into custody.
Inside the house there were two more duffle bags full of the renter’s property sitting next to the front door. It looked as if the suspects had been caught right before loading it into their vehicles, MacKenzie said.
Arrested on burglary charges were: Jeremy Johnson, 36, of Turlock; Toby Corbin, 40, of Empire; Melissa Warr, 21, of Turlock; and Rhonda Jolliff, a 51-year-old transient. Johnson also was booked for a parole violation. All suspects were booked on $50,000 bail and still remain in custody in Merced Jail.
