Hit and run leaves Hilmar man critically wounded

The Merced Area California Highway patrol is looking for the driver who left the scene of a hit and run in Hilmar that left one man with major head trauma.

The victim of the hit and run was identified by the CHP as Nathanial Fleming, 28, of Hilmar. He was rushed to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto with major head trauma and other serious injuries, according to the CHP.

The collision was reported to the CHP shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

Fleming had been walking westbound on 3rd Avenue, west of Rose Road, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling at an unknown speed. The vehicle also was traveling westbound on 3rd, just west of Rose Road.

The front of the vehicle and the passenger side mirror struck Fleming, according to the CHP.

It’s unknown if Fleming was walking in the roadway or on the north shoulder of 3rd Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision drove away from the scene, however investigators located the side mirror at the collision, said CHP spokesperson Officer Eric Zuniga.
