The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is searching for information that will lead to the capture of five men who committed a home invasion robbery in Delhi.

The robbery occurred in the 14000 block of South Avenue in Delhi early Monday morning. Five masked men kicked down the door of the house and, speaking in Spanish, demanded cash from the female resident and a teenage boy in the house, said sheriff spokesman Deputy Tom MacKenzie.

Three of the suspects came into the house while two served as lookouts outside. At least one of the suspects inside the house was armed with a handgun. The woman at the house was slapped during the robbery, MacKenzie said.

The suspects searched the house and took a small amount of cash and jewelry.

It’s unknown if the house was specifically targeted, but deputies did find several fighting roosters behind the residence.

The suspects fled the residence on foot.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call the Merced County Sheriff’s Department at 385-7444.
