Man arrested for assault on officer at school campus

A 21-year-old man who was on a Turlock school campus without permission was arrested Friday after assaulting an officer.

According to the Turlock Police Department, John Root was on the Turlock High School campus located at 1600 E. Canal Dr., around 1 p.m. Friday. Root had not signed in with the school office and did not have permission to be on the grounds.

School Resource Office Ian Rodriguez found Root and directed him to leave the campus, at which point Root turned on the officer.

Root swung at Rodriguez and kicked him, according to the police report. Rodriguez used his pepper spray to subdue Root and was able to take him into custody.

Root was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and assault of an officer.

MODESTO — Convicted child molester Timothy Roger Weathers, who was set to be released into a residence just outside the Turlock city limit, said in court Friday that he is frustrated with the pace of legal proceedings and wants to be set free as a transient.
