Hughson firefighters responding to a report of a house fire just outside of city limits discovered a deceased man inside the home, a possible victim of foul play.

At this time the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department has not released the name of the deceased man, citing the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of his death and the cause of the fire.

The fire was reported shortly after midnight Monday at a residence in the 3100 block of Berkeley Road, just outside of Hughson city limits, said sheriff spokesman Dep. Anthony Bejaran.

Firefighters were extinguishing the fire inside the home when they discovered the deceased man.

After the fire was extinguished, a fire investigator and sheriff’s detectives responded to the house to conduct an investigation.
