An armed man, believed to be suicidal, was shot to death by three California Highway Patrol officers Saturday night along a stretch of road between Turlock and Patterson.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department identified the deceased as Carrick Vigen, 37, of Sacramento. The fatal shooting is being investigated by the sheriff’s department, the CHP and the district attorney’s office.

The CHP has not released the names of the officers involved, but sheriff spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran said he expects the names to be released soon.

At 9:18 p.m. Saturday the CHP and the sheriff’s department were notified of an armed and possibly suicidal man parked at a Valero gas station at the corner of W. Main Street and Crowslanding Road.

Bejaran said he could not reveal the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting because of the ongoing investigation.

The shooting did happen shortly after the officers arrived at the scene.

Emergency medical personnel were dispatched, but Vigen was pronounced dead at the scene.
