The Turlock Police Department is investigating a stabbing that left one man dead but have not ruled it a homicide at this point in time, said Turlock Police spokesman Sgt. Michael Parmley.

The deceased was identified by the police department as Freddy Gil, 29, of Turlock.

The stabbing happened around 3:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 400 block of E. Linwood Avenue. It was initially classified as an aggravated assault by police dispatch.

The deceased was found by emergency personnel on the ground and unresponsive. He had at least one stab wound to his chest. The victim was declared dead at the scene after CPR was unsuccessful.

The official cause of death is pending toxicology results, Parmley said.

The police department is not releasing any other details about the incident.
