The report of a suspicious person Tuesday night led to the arrest of a parolee who was in possession of a loaded firearm.

A suspicious person was reported shortly around 10:30 p.m. in the 300 block of W. Hawkeye Avenue. Officers arriving at the location found two men, one of whom took off running as the officers approached, Turlock Police Sgt. Stephen Webb said.

As the man ran, he dropped a loaded firearm that was recovered by an officer. The man was apprehended a short distance away and identified as Jose Jaime Ramirez-Barjas, 23, of Turlock.

Barjas was on parole, which made his home open to a search. At the house officers found suspected stolen property and an investigation into how Barjas acquired the property is underway.

Barjas was arrested on suspicion of possession of the firearm as well as a parole violation.

The man with Barjas, later identified as Jose Morfin, 23, of Turlock, was arrested for interfering with a peace officer after he refused to comply with the officers’ commands, Webb said.
