Possible DUI crash kills Keyes driver

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the Saturday evening crash that took the life of a 37-year-old driver who lived in Keyes.

The victim has been identified as Carlos Alberto Martinez-Gonzalez of Keyes.

The California Highway Patrol investigated the crash on Keyes Road at Nunes Road at 11:30 p.m. and said that the victim was not wearing a seat belt. They believe he had been drinking and may have been intoxicated when he steered his 2001 Ford from eastbound Keyes Road into the path of a second vehicle.

The CHP said Martinez-Gonzalez attempted to turn left onto Nunes when he cut in the westbound path of a 2006 Pontiac driven by Sandy Taylor, 49, of Atwater. Taylor suffered only pain but refused medical treatment on the scene.
