A Turlock man’s attempt to shoplift turned into a robbery when he fought with Wal-Mart’s loss prevention agents after they confronted him about the theft.

Around 8:30 p.m. Friday the Turlock Police Department received a report of a man suspected of theft fighting with store security outside the store at 2111 Fulkerth Rd.

The first officers to arrive found the suspect, later identified as Hosea Valenzuela, 23, with an unidentified woman in a vehicle attempting to leave the scene.

Officers stopped the car and detained Valenzuela, but the woman ran from the scene, according to the police report. The woman’s name was not released publicly, but she is wanted by the Turlock Police Department for felony petty theft with priors.

Valenzuela was booked on a charge of robbery.
