A body of a man was recovered from a canal near Turlock Wednesday that could be linked to a submerged vehicle found in a canal on Monday.

As of Friday afternoon, the name of the deceased had not been released.

The body was first spotted Wednesday morning by a Turlock Irrigation District employee. The body was in a canal off West Taylor Road, west of Crows Landing Road.

TID lowered the water level in the canal so that the remains could be removed.

The body was that of a black male adult, fully clothed. Law enforcement said the remains appeared to have been in the water for a couple of days.

On Monday, a white sedan was removed from a canal in the area of Keyes. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time, but authorities are investigating if the man might have been in the car when it went into the water. The canals are connected.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department is calling the case a death investigation at this time.
