The Merced County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a shooting that wounded a 29-year-old man in Delhi, but the victim has been uncooperative with investigators.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the incident, but is said to now be in stable condition, according to the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the 16000 block of August Avenue in Delhi around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The first deputies to arrive found the victim on the ground with gunshot wounds. He was airlifted to a local hospital.

The victim has not been cooperating with investigators, including refusing to provide even a cursory description of the shooter. The sheriff’s department suspects the man was wounded in a drive-by shooting and that it could be gang or drug related.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Department at 385-7445.
