Sleeping driver sends Turlock man to hospital

A drowsy driver fell asleep behind the wheel while traveling on Highway 49 and struck a tree, causing injuries to his Turlock passenger.

The collision occurred around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 49 in San Andreas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Johnathan Nuno, 19, of Turlock was driving a 2008 Ford F-150 northbound on the highway when he said he fell asleep.

Nuno missed a curve on the highway and drove off the road and hit a tree and a barbed-wire fence, the CHP reported.

The passenger in the truck, 22-year-old Dylan Fredenburg of Turlock sustained moderate injuries to his face and head and was taken by ambulance to Mark Twain Hospital. Nuno was not injured in the crash, according to the CHP.

Alcohol and drugs were not considered a factor in the collision the CHP reported.
