A short but speedy pursuit ended with the arrest of an 18-year-old man and the recovery of a stolen shotgun.

The incident began around 4 a.m. Saturday in the area of S. First Street when a man, later identified as Alejandro Aguilar turned his vehicle in front of an oncoming patrol car, forcing the Turlock Police officer to slam on his brakes to avoid a collision.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but Aguilar sped off instead, said police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The pursuit lasted about two minutes and covered about one mile. Aguilar drove through residential areas at a speed of more than 70 mph before stopping the vehicle and trying to make his escape on foot. He was apprehended near the 1400 block of S. First Street and taken into custody.

Officers found a stolen shotgun in Aguilar’s vehicle. He was charged with possession of a stolen weapon and evading and resisting arrest.
