An observant and determined witness helped the Turlock Police Department capture a suspected thief.
Around 10 a.m. Saturday, a man, later identified as Benjamin Rivera, 26, reached over the counter at the Best K Market at 2233 Geer Rd., and grabbed money out of the open cash drawer.
The suspect ran out of the store, but was seen by a witness, who followed after him.
According to the police report, Rivera ran through Professional Park and was jumping over fences as he ran towards Pedras Road. As Rivera was making his escape, money was falling out of the bottom of his pants, the police department reported.
Rivera ran to the 300 block of Hawkeye Avenue, where he stole a bike from a group of men, according to the police report.
The witness continued to follow Rivera to a residence in the 1100 block of Kenwood Avenue, which is where police found him.
The police department stated Rivera confessed to everything and was arrested for burglary and grand theft.
