The Turlock Police Department is investigating a break-in at Alquist Arms in which one or more  thieves made off with ammunition and “numerous weapons,” said Turlock Police spokesperson Officer Mayra Lewis.

The break-in was first reported shortly around 8 a.m.  Wednesday by the store’s owner, who arrived at the 120 S. Center St. business to find the alarm activated and a door open, Lewis said.

The suspect(s) were able to gain entry into the store through the back entry.

The store does have video surveillance and investigators had been able to obtain images from the cameras, Lewis said.

As of Thursday afternoon, investigators were following up on a possible lead in the theft.

“Obviously we are very concerned about this and don’t want firearms ending up in the wrong hands because it could prove deadly for everyone involved,” Lewis said.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact the police department at 668-5550.
