Turlock man faces charges for head-on crash

A head-on collision late Saturday night resulted in serious injuries for two Turlock men and a drunk driving arrest for one of them, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision happened around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Geer Road, south of Santa Fe Avenue.

Anibel Lopez, 31, of Turlock was driving a Honda sedan southbound on Geer Road at an undetermined speed.

A driver behind Lopez who witnessed the crash told the CHP that Lopez was drifting back and forth from the southbound lane to the northbound lane and back again.

The witness was just starting to call 911 when Lopez drifted into the northbound lane and struck a GMC sports utility vehicle, according to the CHP.

The two vehicles struck head-on and came to a rest in the roadway. Both had significant front-end damage.

Lopez was found initially unconscious, but came to and was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto. He sustained serious injuries including a fractured pelvis and ankle and abdominal injuries.

Lopez was placed under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and released to the custody of the hospital, according to the CHP.

The driver of the GMC, Rigoberto Salas-Torres, 49, of Turlock suffered a broken leg and facial lacerations, according to the CHP.
