Turlock woman killed in Modesto collision

A Turlock woman was killed and a Turlock man arrested for driving under the influence and causing a fatal collision on Oakdale Road in Modesto.

The deceased was identified as Erika Navarro, 33, of Turlock.

Navarro was a passenger in a four-door sedan driven by Jorge Cardenas, 30, of Turlock. Cardenas has been taken into custody on multiple charges following the fatal collision, according to the Modesto Police Department.

The collision happened around 2 a.m. Thursday on Oakdale Road in Modesto, near the intersection of Wylie Drive.

Cardenas was driving the sedan northbound on Oakdale Road at a high rate of speed, according to the police department.

Cardenas lost control of the vehicle and it traveled into the southbound lanes, where it struck a pickup truck.

The force of the impact caused fatal injuries to Navarro and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cardenas sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck, who was not identified, had minor injuries, according to the police department.

Cardenas has been arrested on suspicion of homicide, vehicular homicide, and driving under the influence. He remains hospitalized.
