The Turlock Education Foundation’s quest to raise $1 million for Turlock Unified School District students is one step closer to fulfillment through generous donations from community members. Turlock Firefighters Local 2434 donated $2,500 through its annual Random Acts of Kindness Boot Drive.

“Every year they stand out there, uniforms donned and boots in hand, asking donations from the community.  They turned to TEF to help them ensure that their donated funds are put to use in the most effective manner possible to support public education in Turlock,” said TEF president Barney Gordon.

“TEF’s main purpose is to enhance the educational experience,” said Gordon.  “The immediate goal is to establish an ongoing $25,000 per year grant program that will allow teachers to apply for grants of up to $1,000 to support their students.  This money can be used for fieldtrips, books, or anything the teacher needs to enhance the child’s educational experience.”

The foundation is currently seeking donations to fund the teacher grant program.

“We are working hard to establish a fair and equitable grant application process that will support both the TUSD and TEF missions,” added Gordon.  “We are seeking to be a pathway between donors and the school district.”

The Turlock Education Foundation is a non-profit foundation that supports the students of the Turlock Unified School District.  Founded in 2011 by a partnership of parents, community members, and local businesses; TEF intends to bridge the gap in unpredictable and insufficient education funding from state government.

“Donations of any size are warmly welcomed, and every dollar makes a difference and make sure the money is put into the educational experience for our children,” said Gordon.
