For many, Turlock Unified School District and Turlock Education Foundation’s annual Festival on the Green is much more than the average school fair.

“The Festival on the Green provides our community the opportunity to witness the musical and artistic talents of our students, TUSD’s reputable and popular music programs at all levels, and the dedication of staff and parents who have helped develop and foster our students’ creative skills,” said superintendent of educational services Dana Trevethan.

Now in its fourth year, this year’s festival will host a number of performances from over 600 band, orchestra and choir students from throughout the District.

There will also be a number of entertainment productions at the amphitheatre, all of which will highlight the many talents of TUSD students.

According to Trevethan, before the festival was established, the District held a sequence of evening performances that did not allow for showcasing all of the talented music students to the Turlock community.

As a result, a committee of stakeholders collaborated to create the Festival on the Green to include the performances of all student groups at once.

“The combined efforts of TUSD and the TEF have allowed the event to expand within the community, with emphasis placed on supporting TUSD’s music program,” said Trevethan.

Music is not the only forte of the festival, as the event is scheduled to have food, art exhibits, school and community agency booths, and space for 50 additional vendors.

“Vendors help to create an atmosphere of community support, recognition and celebration for this one-day, annual event that highlights the talents of TUSD’s music students and educators,” said Trevethan.

For the festival, TUSD and TEF are looking for a number of crafts, homemade goods, clothing, accessories, non-perishable foods and business information booths.

Vendors interested in attending the event can find more information, as well as vendor applications, at turlockusd-ca.schoolloop.com or call 634-0843.

The Festival on the Green will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on March 21 at Pitman High School, 2525 W. Christoffersen Parkway.
