After three years of inactivity, Pitman High School will once again be welcoming community members to their campus this Saturday for the ninth Festival on the Green celebration. The event is a celebration of campus music departments, with performances throughout the day.

“The Festival on the Green provides a safe, positive, high-quality and family-friendly celebration of student talent,” according to the District.

According to TUSD, there will be over 1,400 student performers as part of the day’s festivities, including school bands, choirs and orchestras from 13 TUSD campuses.

The first Festival on the Green was held in 2012 when students and teachers felt that their music programs needed more than just one or two concerts or events per school year to showcase their talents. Since then, the all-day event regularly draws hundreds of students, their families and community members.

Aside from the live entertainment, attendees are drawn to the event by the several student art displays showcased as well as booths for student and community clubs and organizations. Additionally, there will be over 30 arts and crafts and food vendors in attendance. The district said that the event not only helps promote the music programs in the district, but also encourages good character and civility within the Turlock community through the informational booths and through the promotion of local small businesses.

Festivities will get underway at 10 a.m. when choir students from grades 6 through 12 take the stage. The choir will be followed up at 12:30 p.m. when the concert orchestras of Pitman and Turlock High are joined by students from Dutcher Middle, Brown Elementary, Crowell Elementary, Earl Elementary and Medeiros Elementary for a performance.

At 2 p.m., the Pitman High and Turlock High chamber orchestras will take the stage alongside students from Turlock Junior High, Dutcher Middle, Cunningham Elementary, Julien Elementary, Walnut Elementary and Wakefield Elementary.

Following the orchestras, the bands will take over for the first of two performances at 3:30 p.m., when the Turlock and Pitman High bands join forces with the bands of Dutcher Middle, Turlock Junior High, Crowell Elementary, Earl Elementary, Julien Elementary and Walnut Elementary.

The day will conclude with the second band performances from Pitman High, Turlock High, Dutcher Middle and Turlock Junior High at 5 p.m., this time being joined by the bands of Brown Elementary, Cunningham Elementary, Medeiros Elementary and Wakefield Elementary.
