UC Merced to celebrate packed Earth Week

The University of California, Merced is already a green campus, but this week students, faculty and staff will ramp up the environmentalism as they celebrate Earth Week.
The inaugural Earth Week Speaker Series, featuring presenters whose jobs focus on the environment, will highlight the week. The series is intended to showcase the increasing availability of “green-collar” jobs to students, but the public is welcome.
The student-run UC Merced Green Club will also host a series of events, including a Monday tour of the university’s solar array, a Tuesday farmers’ market, and a Friday film festival. The campus Cycling Alliance will join in with free snacks and beverages from 9 a.m. to noon all week for those who bike to school.
UC Merced will also serve as the final stop on a self-guided Green Tour of Merced County from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The Valley Land Alliance sponsored tour, includes 14 stops at homes, businesses and gardens that feature “ideas for healthy, economical living and environmental performance.” Tickets for the self-guiding tour are $10 and can be purchased at the Alliance's Web site or at UC Merced, Forté Frozen Yogurt or Okuye Straw Bale House.
