Carnegie to host virtual self-portrait lesson
Carnegie self portrait
The Carnegie Arts Center will host a self-portrait lesson via Zoom on Jan. 22.

The Carnegie Arts Center is hosting an online self-portrait lesson as this month’s Family Friday.

The self-portrait Zoom class will be led by artist and illustrator Linda Knoll. Participants can create their self-portrait using any materials they have at home, but those who need supplies can pick up a free Family Friday Kit from the Carnegie. Each kit contains a watercolor set of eight colors with a paint brush and mixed media paper. Pickup will begin Jan. 16 during open hours. Kits are first come, first served with a limit of 30 kits available. Self-portraits are the perfect opportunity to show off art skills and faces after months of mask-wearing.

Linda Knoll
The self-portrait Zoom class hosted by the Carnegie Arts Center will be led by artist and illustrator Linda Knoll.

Knoll is a local artist, teacher and graphic designer. She enjoys drawing and painting portraits of people and pets, especially faces with fun expressions using lots of color. She has also published a couple of picture books (available in Carnegie's gift shop), about local wildlife and the farmer's market.

Knoll's latest adventure is a magazine about the arts that is perfect for children and families. It's called StArt (Stanislaus Art) and focuses stories and activities around our regional arts happenings. Issue #2 of StArt will be coming out in mid-January. The upcoming edition connects art and peace, things we hope to have much more of in the coming year. It features stories and activities about peacemakers, finding peace through art, and much more. Subscriptions can be ordered at lindaknollart.com/start-magazine.

The Zoom class will start at 7 p.m. Jan. 22. The Zoom link is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82400969430?pwd=anNHWGZYTXhaSC90TjdxSWdMWWFiZz09. The Link can also be found on the Carnegie’s Facebook page and website under Event Calendar.

This event is free as part of the Carnegie’s Family Friday series of monthly programs designed to provide fun, educational, and creative activities for families. Sponsored by Kids Care Dental & Orthodontics.
