The City of Turlock is happy to announce its second round of Water Saving Heroes, Gizella Linn and Milt Trieweiler.

Gizella "Zella" Linn is a resident at Lifespring Senior Campus. After each meal served at Lifespring, Zella gathers all the unconsumed water from residents to water the flowers at the facility. She enjoys taking care of the flowers and found this to be a good way to conserve water, instead of it going down the drain. Zella is “always aware about the water shortage and thinks people should be more careful when using water.”

Zella is a great example of creative conservation. Although she may not have control of how much water is used at her living facility, she has taken the initiative to find ways to help conserve water where she is able.

Milt Trieweiler is an avid conservationist who is passionate about educating others on the importance of using water efficiently. Milt’s own conservation efforts have reduced his water consumption to approximately 97 gallons per day! That is only a drop in the bucket in comparison to the typical customer’s average of 148 gpd. In fact, last month Milt used only 2,927 gallons of water for the entire month.

In addition to his conservation efforts at home, Milt has also been a champion of educational endeavors as well. On more than one occasion, he has exhibited his enthusiasm for stewardship by presenting the community with valuable information at the City Council meetings. Milt believes that “the average Turlock resident is using anywhere from 6 to 10 times more water in the yard than necessary. To reduce consumption, residents need to be conscious of their outdoor water use.”

The City asks the community to nominate friends, family or themselves for demonstrating water conservation efforts. Go to the City of Turlock’s website at www.CityofTurlock.org. From the home page, click on “City Departments” and then click on “Municipal Services.” Under the Quick Links box you will find a link to “Nominate a Water Saving Hero.”
