City seeks applicants for commission openings

The City of Turlock is seeking local residents interested in serving on a public commission, as two seats will soon be open on the Planning Commission and four seats open on the Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission. The City is also seeking residents to serve on the Community Development Block Grant Community Grant Selection Committee.

Turlock Planning Commissioners Nick Hackler and Victor Pedroza will be terming out on Dec. 31.

The Turlock Planning Commission is comprised of seven regular and two alternate members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Each member serves four-year terms with term limits established at 12 years. Each alternate member serves a term of two years. The Turlock Planning Commission holds regularly scheduled meetings on the first Thursday of each month. Meetings are held at Turlock City Hall, 156 S. Broadway, in the Yosemite Community Room and begin at 7 p.m.

Parks, Arts and Recreation Commissioners Robert Holly, Brent Bohlender and Michelle Morse will be terming out on Dec. 31. There is also one other seat currently vacant.

The Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission is comprised of seven members, appointed by the Mayor with approval from the City Council. The Parks, Arts and Recreation Commission holds regularly scheduled meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings are held at Turlock City Hall, 156 S. Broadway, in the Yosemite Community Room and begin at 6 p.m.

Citizens interested in serving on the Planning Commission or PARC must turn in their applications by Monday.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are reserved for grants to non-profit agencies to provide eligible Public Service programs benefiting low and moderate families in the City of Turlock. The CDBG Community Grant Selection Committee reviews and rates presentations from grant applicants one time a year in January.

Applications for the CDBG Community Grant Selection Committee must be received by the City Clerk no later than Jan. 12.
