Intersection to be improved at Dels Lane and Golden State

Construction can soon be expected near Del’s Lane and Golden State Boulevard within the coming months, as the City Council approved an agreement on Tuesday evening to move forward with intersection improvements in the area.

According to the City of Turlock, the improvement project was selected as a recipient of federal funds under the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program. The area is known to experience high levels of traffic congestion as southbound vehicles traveling on Del’s Lane have difficulty turning left onto Golden State Boulevard due to the street’s high amount of traffic and the relatively high speeds of vehicles moving on Golden State.

Also of concern is the lack of safe pedestrian crosswalks in the area, thus leading to the decision to create a signalized intersection.

While the start date of the project is not currently set in stone, the construction contract between the City of Turlock and George Reed Inc. of Modesto estimates the project to be completed within 90 working days.

“Assuming 3-4 weeks until contract execution, they would be obligated to complete all construction by mid-February 2014,” said City of Turlock Associate Civil Engineer Stephen Fremming. “However, rain delays can end up pushing that out a bit.”

More information on this project will be released as the City progresses with the construction process.
