Mandatory commercial and organics recycling

Businesses in Turlock that generate four cubic yards of waste per week are required to have both a recycling and organics recycling program to separate and properly dispose of such materials.  Businesses that have a self-haul program for recyclables must inform the Municipal Services Department by filling out a questionnaire, which is available on the City’s website at or at 156 S. Broadway, Ste. 270.  To start recycling and/or organics recycling service, businesses should contact Turlock Scavenger at (209) 668-7274.

WHAT SHOULD BE RECYCLED? Aluminum and tin cans (must be rinsed free of food contamination), plastic bottles and jugs, cardboard, mixed paper and newspaper are all items that should be placed in the recycling bin.  Materials should not be enclosed in a plastic garbage bag before placing them in the bin and plastic caps and lids should be removed from containers.

WHAT IS CONSIDERED ORGANIC MATERIAL?  Organic material includes: food scraps and leftovers, food-soiled paper products, plants, leaves, flowers and landscape vegetation.
