‘Tis the season
Christmas gifts

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, it is time to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Did you know, however, that the amount of garbage produced increases 25 percent from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day?

In the midst of all the holiday spirit, try these recycling tips to reduce the amount of materials you send to the landfill by mistake after opening gifts:

1. Choose to wrap your gifts in wrapping paper this year that is non-metallic and does not contain glitter in order to recycle it after use.

2. During your holiday parties, put recycling bins next to your trash bins to make it easier for your guests to recycle their glass bottles and aluminum cans.

3. If you gift or get a new electronic gadget this year, make sure the old one is recycled responsibility.

4. After all your gifts are unwrapped, be sure to break down and recycle all cardboard boxes in your blue bin — or save them for next year.
