Locals looking to relive their high school glory days will have the opportunity to as the Active 20-30 Club of Turlock is hosting a Casino Royale Prom event complete with gowns, corsages, photos, and more.

The Casino Royale Prom idea was conceived of earlier this year when the club was told it was one of the nonprofits no longer permitted to sell alcohol at the Stanislaus County Fair. For more than 20 years the club operated a margarita booth that brought in roughly $6,000 annually.

“We needed to find a way to recoup those costs,” explained club member and event organizer Ashley Cahill.

With the success of the club’s Wine and Screams wine tasting event in the fall, the club members envisioned a springtime event that would provide the community a fun way to give back.

“To my knowledge I don’t think anyone in town has a prom event for adults,” said Cahill.

Cocktails, food, dancing, and of course casino games will all be a part of the event, the proceeds from which go towards fulfilling the club’s mission of supporting underprivileged children. One of the club’s main ways to give back is their annual Christmas shopping trip when members take children in need shopping for necessities.

The event kicks off with a bang as the first hour includes an open bar and several performances. Former Dancing with the Turlock Stars couple Xavier Huerta and Yvonne Geiger will treat guests to a tango performance after which Gabrielle Forrest of Alegria Ballroom Dance Academy will teach a tango lesson. Then Michael Jackson impersonating internet sensation Brett Nichols will be performing with his dance troupe LMNTO.

A professional company will set up for guests to play poker, black jack, and roulette for a suggested donation of $25 than includes an evening of play. There will be several raffle items including gift cards, baskets with various alcoholic beverages,  a pair of men’s Spy sunglasses donated from Generations Family Optometry,  and a piece of jewelry donated from Geiger’s Jewelers up for bid.

There will be small bites from local restaurants like Red Brick Bar and Grill, Jura’s, and the Turlock Golf and Country. Red Brick will also be crafting signature 007 themed cocktails for purchase.  Dice décor, balloon arches, and playing cards will transform the hall and a DJ will play songs from the 1980s onwards until 11 p.m.

“We’re really going to run with the theme and are encouraging everyone to dress up,” said Cahill.

The 20-30 Club’s Casino Royale Prom will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. April 25 at the Turlock War Memorial. Open bar cocktail hour will take place from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple and can be purchased from Geiger’s Jewelers, from any 20-30 Club members, as well as online at www.casinoroyaleprom.eventbrite.com. Tickets will also be available at the door. Business sponsorships are also available and interested individuals can call Ashley Cahill at 648-9340.
