Two grassfires west of Turlock sent thick plumes of smoke into the sky Wednesday afternoon.

One fire was located on Bliss Road and the other was in the area of Moffett and E. Tuolumne roads.

The fire on Bliss Road broke out around 2:30 p.m. and was dispatched to the Mountain View Fire Protection District. The Keyes Fire Protection District assisted with a water tender and a fire truck.

Around 3 p.m. a fire was reported in the Keyes area at Moffett and E. Tuolumne roads. The fire grew to seven acres and was threatening an orchard and a barn until the Turlock Irrigation District flooded a field to stop the spread of the flames.

The Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District and the Ceres and Modesto fire department all responded to the fire to assist.

There were no injuries reported from the fires.

The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
