A 9-year-old Turlock boy travelling with family for the holidays was killed in a solo vehicle crash along Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County.

The boy was identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office as Juan Galvan.

Galvan was one of six people in a 1997 Ford Explorer that was headed northbound on the interstate around 1 p.m. Sunday.

For an unknown reason the driver of the Ford Explorer made a quick veer to the left and lost control of the vehicle. The Ford Explorer overturned several times before coming to a rest in the center divider.

The impact partially ejected Galvan from his left rear passenger seat, causing major head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The five other people in the vehicle sustained minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation by the CHP Barstow station.
